A Year of Regret, Misery, and Unending Pain--Set to a Jaunty Soundtrack!
Our annual 2-disc giveaway (given the title this year of Disco:Very 2012) is now available for you to enjoy, in two different formats. 1) E-mail us your name and address (faked names are acceptable, perhaps even encouraged) to receive a smartly-designed CD format (which Youth now declares dead), or 2) for a digital version, simply download Disc One here and Disc Two here. File sharing between two or more people is the love which dare not speak its name.

Disco:Very Translates His Own Press Release Touting Free Give Away of Remastered Release of Disco:Very 2001
On May 24th, 2012, world-renowned music blog Disco:Very will reissue the acclaimed Disco:Very 2001 year-end compilation, which was originally given away to a small number of friends and family in December 2001.
[In this case, "world-renowed" means weird sections of the American midwest and two readers in Ireland, and "acclaimed" means "some people actually kept their CD's for a year before tossing them in the garbage".
"There is not a week that goes by without some fan of my current CD's asking if I will ever reissue the earlier comps", said Disco:Very CEO, Disco:Very. "The time felt right to remind the public why we are at the forefront of custom-made CD compilations given out free-of-charge on an annual basis."
[How very edgy: still working in a media format less popular than the wax cylinder.]
As it has done for the past 12 years, blog readers are instructed to send their name and address to Disco:Very's e-mail address whereupon a CD will be immediately mailed to the requester. Because Disco:Very respects its readers privacy, fake names are allowed in each request as long as the address is real.
[The validity of claims to privacy cannot be verified, so keep your soiled underwear locked up just to be sure.]
Longtime readers of Disco:Very and newbies alike will find much to like in this nostalgic trip from 2001, including artists familiar (The Magnetic Fields, Jurassic 5, Sigur Ros) and some off the beaten path (Zero Zero, Marvin Pontiac, Zoot Woman.)
[Anyone in the internet age who still can't stumble upon the music of Radiohead on their own must be some kind of specialized idiot. ]
The audio and cover art has been redesigned and remastered from top to bottom, so even if you already own an original Disco:Very 2001 CD, you should consider adding this newer edition to your collection for its crisp remastering and bold minimalist graphics.
[The original artwork from 2001 was so hideous, it was best to throw it all away and stick to the design of the last few years just to play it safe.]
Disco:Very is a music blog publishing since 2005 where it made a name for itself as an incisive, inflammatory blog of opinion, reviews and music links.
[In other words, just like every other music blog clogging cyberspace, but the author of this one doesn't know the meaning of the words "Give it up, already".]

I Suck. You're Welcome.
The last day of every year always yields many dull and predictable events: nutter religious figures predicting the end times, over-zealous bargain hunters digging through bins of Christmas decorations slashed half-off, etc, etc.
Sadly, this little blog is no better.
Once again, I announce my sub-meager annual end-of-the-year CD compilation pulling together my favorite songs from the past 12 months. This 2CD set (cleverly entitled Disco:Very 2011) has 40 tracks of toe-tapping, head-slapping beauty guaranteed to make you dance around the house.
To get your free copy of this one-time-only gift, simply send your name (fakes accepted) and address to peecat at mac dot com and the package will be on its way. Your name and address will be thrown away after your package has been sent, and will not be shared with anyone else.
It's the end of the year as we know it (and I feel fine giving away cheap CDs to random strangers).

Disco:Very 2010 2-CD Comp Now Available for Free (Or Best Offer)
It took far longer than it should have to complete, but Disco:Very 2010, our annual year-end free-of-charge best-of compilation, is finally done. This 2-disc extravaganza is chock full of booty-wailing, fist-shaking, foot-bleeding goodness (now with 28% fewer foreign languages)! You can download disc one here and disc two here, and the track listings are here. Or if you prefer a physical copy with all the graphic trimmings, send your mailing address to the e-mail at the end of the column on the right. While we might not respect you, we do respect your privacy and the name/address you send will never be sent to anyone else. Supplies are limited (meaning: I ran out of empty CD cases) so send your request in today!

Second to None (Except for Everyone In First Place)
The general public fires off a myriad of e-mail questions towards the Disco:Very offices once it learns of the year-end free CD offer. In an attempt to quell potential uproar, let's discuss some of these inquiries openly:
1. I just sent you my address--does this mean I can expect to be stalked?
Only if you want me to. And even then, what's in it for me?
2. The new year began over a week ago--where is my CD already?
Do I come down to your job and insist you cook my Big Mac faster?
3. I'm with the RIAA. You're under arrest.
That's not a question.
4. What songs were left off the CD, and why?
The reasons are as varied as the rejects themselves. Here are a few:

4. What songs were left off the CD, and why?
The reasons are as varied as the rejects themselves. Here are a few:
- This track sounds too much like their other songs, only without the pathos.
- This one is even too disco for me.
- Another blogger already picked them as a year-end favorite, and I am a lone wolf.
- They used a flute on a previous song, therefore they must be penalized.
- My fans can only take so many songs in Portuguese in one sitting.
- Sorrowful expressions of ethnic cleansing through song is sooooo 2005.
- She lives six blocks away from me, and I do not pander to friends (again: lone wolf).
- Time constraint, pure and simple (also: ew, she's a widow).
- My fans can only take so many songs recorded on wax cylinder in one sitting.
- Just because it sounds like "Sister Ray" doesn't make it as good as "Sister Ray".
- This resembles Tom Petty a bit too much for comfort.
- When the fey receptionist at my gym doesn't even know this song, this singer's career is dead.

The Gift That Keeps On Giving. Forever.
It's that time of year where I offer all readers a free 2-CD set comprised of my favorite songs from the last year. Simply send a name (any name will do) and address to the e-mail address listed at the bottom of the right-hand column and you'll be sent a package in a week's time. Regular readers will also get--at no extra cost!--a tall glass of herpes. Don't delay!

Freedom Isn't Free (Neither Is Our Blogger/Reader Relationship)
This is the time of year when I offer all fans of Disco:Very a free copy of my annual 2-CD compilation containing the songs I listened to the most throughout the last 12 months.
However, because this blog doesn't actually have any fans, I'll extend the offer to you instead.
The rules are simple: send your name (real or fake) and address to the e-mail listed in the column at right, and within a week or two, you'll find a package in the mail containing 2 CD's of music. There is no fee for this annual document--you have paid the price already by enduring me and my snide remarks as I taunted your taste in music throughout the past year.
As an added bonus, there is now a game you can play at home when your discs arrive. Simply print up your copy of Disco:Very 2008 Bingo, cut it out and play along as the discs unspool on your stereo. You'll get hours of amusement ticking off all the characteristics of this year's music, long after you have come to the realization that the 2008 compilation is nearly identical in structure to the last one and the one before that and the one before that.
Happy New Year's, suckers!

The Gift That Keeps On Giving...Joy (If You Like It) ...Headaches (If You Don't)
For those of you paying close attention, every year Disco:Very offers you a nifty one-of-a-kind (though mass-produced) year-end collection of music. Just like last year, you can obtain it two different ways: 1) through a harsh, unemotional digital download, or, 2), you can pass along your mailing info to the e-mail address on the column at left (using a fake name is acceptable, perhaps even encouraged) whereupon you will be sent a sweet CD package in a week or less. For those lacking cultural refinement, download it as two Zip files here (Disc One) and here (Disc Two). Song titles/names can be viewed here.) And just like last year, I've provided a list of imperfections in picking an insensitive download over receiving a precious bundle of CDs in the mail [Click on image below to see it more clearly]:
The fine print: If you choose to receive the CD package through the mail, please be assured that once you have received this free gift, your (real or fake) name and e-mail/home address will be thrown away. I will not send you spam (unless receiving spam is the only way to validate our relationship). Delivery time of a CD package can be anywhere between 5 days and 2 weeks, depending on my ability to move my ass into high gear. This offer is good until I forget ever offering it.

Bless the Beasts and the Children (Except for Children Adopted by Celebrities, and Certain Beasts Who Use Their Claws as Murder Weapons)
While Disco:Very was deeply saddened to hear of Benazir Bhutto's demise, one still must question the decision to hold such a volatile political rally directly in front of the tiger cage at the San Francisco zoo. It doesn't take a brilliant blogger to see where that tango step was going to land. Sorrow and pity must also be expressed over the imminent loss of the free 2006 Disco:Very year-end downloads, which will be removed in less than 48 hours to make room for the newly-commissioned 2007 Disco:Very year-end download, which should rear its slimy head sometime on New Year's Day (I'm crowning as we speak).
If you missed out on last year's byte-o-rama, this is your last chance to grab them as bona fide downloads (henceforth, they will be mail order only). Disc One ishere and Disc Two is here; titles/names can be downloaded here. Please note that Pakistan will be withholding all elections while all downloads are proceeding. Democracy is a wondrous thing but only if citizens are obeying the fascist ordinance keeping it in place.

A Big Load of Down
Just like taxes and death, you simply cannot escape the mammoth bigness of the annual best-of year-end comp from your pal at Disco:Very. However, for the first time in history, you'll now have three choices: 1) if you're a fan of Joanna Newsom, you can ignore this offer completely, or, 2), if you prefer a 2-CD set in your postal box, you can toss me an e-mail (peecat[at]mac.com) with your name (fake is fine) and address, or, 3) you can download it directly from my hairless little hands right this very minute (Disc One is here, Disc Two is here; titles/names can be downloaded here.) Of course, you must consider carefully all of the ups/downs/pluses/minues of choosing a cold, heartless download over receiving a warm and fuzzy 2-CD set in the mail [click on image to embiggen]:
The fine print: If you choose to have a CD package mailed you you, please be assured that once you have received this free gift, your (real or fake) name and e-mail/home address will be thrown away and you will not be mailed anything by me ever again (unless you want me to). I will not send you spam (unless you want me to). Delivery time of a CD package can be anywhere between 5 days and 6 weeks, depending on my energy level. This offer is good until my patience runs out.

Back To Your Future

Remember back in January 2006 when I sent some of you my year-end picks Best-Of-2005 CD? And remember how so many of you mocked me and scolded me and bruised my precious feelings for putting the Cansei De Ser Sexy track Friday, December 30, 2005
Me Love You Long Time
Call me a whore, if you will, pimping my wares all over the web like so many tarted-up, rosey-cheeked come-ons directed toward your ears, waving you down as your Firebird turns onto my street. We can role play that hooker scene from Full Metal Jacket, if that's your kink. But no, really, I just want to give you something, free of charge: send me an e-mail with your name (fake is fine), address and zip, and I will personally send you a list (audio style) of my favorite songs discovered in 2005. Sure, everyone else in the blogosphere is playing it old school, merely writing up their year-end faves. Me? I sit in your lap while you're driving and sing it lovingly into your ears. Figuratively speaking.
The fine print: Once you have received this free gift, your (real or fake) name and e-mail/home address will be thrown away and you will not be mailed anything by me ever again forever and ever, amen (for next year's list, we start at square one). I will not send you spam asking if you'd like firmer breasts or a larger penis (my assumption is that you are already endowed with both--feel free to prove me wrong). Delivery time can be anywhere between 5 days and 6 weeks, depending on where you reside. This offer is good until I damn well feel like rescinding it. Disco:Very loves you, and loves to "put out" for you. You may know the music on my list or you may not, but whatever you feel, at last you know you can listen to artists who are real. Disco:Very will not change its year-end list style to meet the whims of a frustrated world. You should appreciate this because you know Disco:Very is pure what more can you ask?
